PIRLS 2006 was designed to measure trends in children's reading literacy achievement and policies and practices related to literacy. PIRLS2006wasthesecond,after PIRLS2001,inacycleofinternationallycomparablereadingassessments.Thestudyassessedstudentsenrolledinthefourthgrade. TheTIMSS&PIRLSInternationalStudyCenter atthe LynchSchoolofEducation,BostonCollege,UnitedStates,servedasthePIRLS2006internationalstudycenter,workinginclosecooperationwiththeIEA,andthenationalcentersofparticipatingcountries.
