Yet,ofcourse,religiouscommunitiesdodifferintheirunderstandingofGod.Butforthatreasonwecannotsaythatthereexistsasmanygodsastherearereligions.TheJewishideaoftheOneCreator-GodisgreatlyunderminedbytheChristianteachingofthreepersonsinoneGod–Father,SonandtheHolySpirit.ThisisdespitethefactthatJesusdidnotteachthis. Infact,basicallyChristiansoughttoaccepttheShemaoftheChildrenofIsrael: “Hear,OIsrael:TheLordourGodisoneLord.”(Deuteronomy6:4) ThisisreiteratedbyJesusChrist: “Thefirstofallthecommandmentsis,Hear,OIsrael;TheLordourGodisoneLord.”(Mark12:29) OneimportantpointtounderstandaboutIslamisthatProphetMuhammad(pbuh)neverclaimedthathewasteachinganewreligion.HesaidthathismissionwastorestoretheoriginalandtruereligionofAbraham,Moses,Jesusandallotherprophets(peacebeuponthemall). TheHolyQur’an,whichistheguidanceofGodrevealedtoMuhammad(pbuh)emphaticallysays,GodisOneandOneOnly.Andwhatismore,itemphasizesthattheMuslimisapersonwhobelievesinalltheBooksofGodandinallHisprophets.ThisisclearlystatedinSurah2,verse136: *{Say:“WebelieveinGod,andinwhathasbeenrevealedtousandwhatwasrevealedtoAbraham,Isma’il,Isaac,Jacob,andtheTribes,andin[theBooks]giventoMoses,Jesus,andtheprophets,fromtheirLord:Wemakenodistinctionbetweenoneandanotheramongthem,andtoGoddowebowourwill[inIslam].”}* Fromtheforegoing,thefollowingpointsbecomeclear: TheGodoftheQur’anisthesameastheGodoftheTorahandtheGospel.Muhammad(pbuh)taughtthesamereligiontaughtbyalltheprophetsofGod,includingAbraham,MosesandJesus(peacebeuponthemall). ItisimportanttorealizethatIslamdoesnotmean“Mohammedanism”assomeOrientalistswantustobelieve.Itis–toputinsimpleterms:SubmissiontothewilloftheAlmighty.WerememberwhatJesusisreportedtohavesaid,whenhewasabouttobearrestedbytheRomansoldiers: “Andhewentalittlefurther,andfellonhisface,andprayed,saying,OmyFather,ifitbepossible,letthiscuppassfromme:nevertheless,notasIwill,butasthouwilt.”(Matthew26:39) WhatJesusdoeshereisdeclaringhissubmissiontoGod’swill,whichexactlyisIslam.Also,itisclearlysaidthatwhenheprayed,hefellonhisface.Thismeanshedidsujood(prostration),astheMuslimsdoinprayer.Thisisthehumblestformofphysicalsubmission,prayingwiththeforeheadplacedontheground. ThuswemaysaythatJesuswasaMuslim,thatisonewhosubmittedtoJehovah,toGodAlmightyorasthepresentdayMuslimsknomHim,asAllah–MayHebeGlorifiedandExalted!
