BeliefintheBooksofGod:MuslimsbelievethatGodrevealedholybooksorscripturestoanumberofGod’smessengers.TheseincludetheQuran(giventoMuhammad),theTorah(giventoMoses),theGospel(giventoJesus),thePsalms(giventoDavid),andtheScrolls(giventoAbraham).Muslimsbelievethattheseearlierscripturesintheiroriginalformweredivinelyrevealed,butthatonlytheQuranremainsasitwasfirstrevealedtotheprophetMuhammad. BeliefintheProphetsorMessengersofGod:MuslimsbelievethatGod’sguidancehasbeenrevealedtohumankindthroughspeciallyappointedmessengers,orprophets,throughouthistory,beginningwiththefirstman,Adam,whoisconsideredthefirstprophet.Twenty-fiveoftheseprophetsarementionedbynameintheQuran,includingNoah,Abraham,Moses,andJesus.MuslimsbelievethatMuhammadisthelastinthislineofprophets,sentforallhumankindwiththemessageofIslam. BeliefintheDayofJudgment:MuslimsbelievethatontheDayofJudgment,humanswillbejudgedfortheiractionsinthislife;thosewhofollowedGod’sguidancewillberewardedwithparadise;thosewhorejectedGod’sguidancewillbepunishedwithhell. BeliefintheDivineDecree:ThisarticleoffaithaddressesthequestionofGod’swill.Itcanbeexpressedasthebeliefthateverythingisgovernedbydivinedecree,namelythatwhateverhappensinone’slifeispreordained,andthatbelieversshouldrespondtothegoodorbadthatbefallsthemwiththankfulnessorpatience.Thisconceptdoesnotnegatetheconceptof“freewill;”sincehumansdonothavepriorknowledgeofGod’sdecree,theydohavefreedomofchoice.
