ForwardStance Figure2:RightFootForwardStance Startingwiththereadystance,moveonefootforwarduntilthekneeandthetoeareinlinetoeachother. Bothtoesarepointinginfront,thewaistandthebodyisfacingforward. Thebodyshouldnotbetoolowortheleadfoottooextendedotherwiseitwillbehardtomaneuver. Distributetheweightorcenterofgravitytobothlegs. Forwardstancescanberightfootlead,whichistheRightFootForwardStanceoritcanbeleftfootleadwhichisLeftFootForwardStance.ForwardStancearecommonlyusedwithfrontalstrikingorblockingtechniques. ObliqueStance Figure3:RightFootObliqueStance Startingwiththereadystance,moveonefootforward45degreesawayfromthebodyuntilthekneeandthetoeareinlinetoeachother. Moveonthesamedirectionastheleadfoot(e.g. forrightfootlead,move45degreesforwardtotheright).Bothtoesarepointinginfront,thewaistandthebodyisfacingforward. Thebodyshouldnotbetoolowortheleadfoottooextendedotherwiseitwillbehardtomaneuver. Distributetheweightorcenterofgravitytobothlegs. Obliquestancescanberightfootlead,whichistheRightFootObliqueStanceoritcanbeleftfootleadwhichisLeftFootObliqueStance. ObliqueStancesarecommonlyusedforforwardblockingandevasiontechniques. StraddleStance Figure4:StraddleStance Startingwiththereadystance,moveonefootabouttwofeet(2’)totheleftortherightdirectionuntilbothlowerlegsarealmostperpendiculartotheground. Bothtoesarepointinginfront,thewaistandthebodyisfacingforward. Thebodyshouldnotbetooloworextendedotherwiseitwillbehardtomaneuver. Distributetheweightorcenterofgravitytobothlegs. StraddlestancearealsocalledHorsebackRidingStancesinceitmimicspositionwhenridingonahorseback. Straddlestancesarecommonlyusedforblockingthestrikestothesideofthebody. SideStance Figure5:LeftSideStance Startingwiththereadystance,moveonefootabouttwofeet(2’)totheleftorrightdirection. Movingfootwillbeperpendiculartothegroundwhiletheotherlegisextendedtherebycreatingapositionlikethatofasidekick. Bothtoesarepointinginfront,thewaistandthebodyisfacingforward. Thebodyshouldnotbetooloworextendedotherwiseitwillbehardtomaneuver. Distributetheweightorcenterofgravitytobothlegs. IftheleftfootmovestothesideitbecomesLeftFootSideStance,iftherightfootmovestothesideitbecomesRightFootSideStance. SideStancesarecommonlyusedforstrikedeflectionandevasiontechniques.
