港式中文的这些封闭词类中出现了一些通用中文所没有的词语,这些词语或承继自古汉语,或源自粤语和英文。

有些通用中文和港式中文的共用词,在二者中出现的频率差别较大,前者较少使用的具有书面语色彩的词语,在后者当中没有这种色彩,为常用词。

由于组合能力和出现的句法环境的变化,有些通用词在港式中文里具有了不同的词性。
