Ofcourse,wearealwayslookingforfinancialgrowth,butthisisnolongerthemostimportantfactorfortheemployeetofeelhappyandfulfilledinhisorherwork.Itisclearthatthemotivatedemployeewhoisrecognizedbytheirleaderwillfeelmuchhappierandaccomplished.Satisfactiongeneratesapositivestatus,resultinginbetterproductivityanddesiredworkbehaviour.Thecompany,throughitsleaders,hasthegreatchallengeofintegratingtheteamsofemployees,extractingthebestfromeachoneofthem.Leadersdiscoverstrengthsandhelpemployeesfeelmorefulfilledintheirroles;themselvesfeelinghappyandrewarded. Inthecontextofworkpsychology,jobsatisfactionisthegeneralattitudeofthepersontowardhisorherjobanddependsonseveralpsychosocialfactors.Therearealsootherconceptsthatrefertojobsatisfactionasasynonymofmotivationorasapositiveemotionalstate.Someconsidersatisfactionanddissatisfactionasdistinct,opposingphenomena.Itisimportanttounderstandthatinfluencesonsatisfactionincludeenvironment,hygiene,workplacesafety,managementstyleandculture,employeeinvolvement,empowermentandautonomousworkofgroups,amongmanyothers.AccordingtoStevenMcShane,“Satisfiedemployeeshaveafavourableevaluationoftheirjobs,basedontheirobservationandemotionalexperience.”Satisfactionitselfisasubjectiveconceptrelatedtowork;forthatreason,itisnormaltoseesatisfiedandunsatisfiedprofessionalsworkinginthesamecompany,departmentorevenroom. WhenwediscussjobsatisfactionitisnecessarytounderstandtheacronymEVLN–Exit,Voice,Loyalty,Neglect.TheEVLNmodelidentifiesfourdifferentwaysthatemployeesrespondtodissatisfaction: Exit.Itincludesleavingtheorganization,transferringtoanotherworkdepartment(orunit)ortryingtogetawayfromthedissatisfyingsituation.Itisimportanttounderstandthatspecificshockeventsquicklyenergizeemployeestothinkaboutleavingtheorganizationandengagingthemselvesinexitbehaviour. Voice.Thiscanbeaconstructiveresponse.Forinstance,recommendingwaystoimprovetheconflictsituation,orevenfillingformalgrievancesormakingacoalitioninordertoopposeadecision. Loyalty.Normally,loyalprofessionalsareemployeeswhorespondtodissatisfactionbypatientlywaiting.Theloyalassociatescansufferinsilencefordays,monthsorevenyearswithoutclearproblemresolution. Neglect.Neglectmeanslackingindiligence.Itincludesreducingworkeffort,payinglessattentiontoservicequality,increasesinabsenteeismandlateness.Thistypeofbehaviourhasnegativeconsequencesfortheorganization. Ifcontinued,thenegativeimpactsrelatedtotheseworkbehavioursareenormous:declineinproductivity,whichdirectlyaffectsthefinancialperformanceofanorganization;lessinnovation,whichparalyzesthefutureofacompanyandputsitsownsurvivalatrisk;highturnover,employeessimplygothroughnumerousorganizations,neverstayinginonelongenoughtocontributeanythingofvalue;highabsenteeism,employeesfindvariouswaystopostponetheirjobs;andimpactsonfamilylife,employeesaccumulatestressthroughouttheworkdayandbringthistensionhome. Itisimportanttounderstandthatemployeescanuseone,twoormoreEVLNalternatives,itdependsonthepersonandsituation.Individualvalues,beliefs,cultureandpastexperiencearerelevantinordertodefinewhichtypeofbehavioursemployeesaremoresusceptibletoengage.
