Spearman'sTwoFactorTheoryofIntelligence TwofactortheorywaspropoundedbyCharlesSpearmanin1904.fleconcludedthatintelligenceiscomprisedbytwofactors,viz."Generalability"knownas'g'factorandSpecificabilityknownas'S'factor.Thistheorystatesthateverycognitivetaskinvolvesageneralfactor'g'whichitshareswithallothercognitivetasksandaspecificfactor'S'whichitshareswithnone. Tostateinsimpleterms,Intelligenceiscomposedoftwofactors.Oneisgeneralfactor'g'whichisinvolvedinallwalksoflifeandetherisspecificfactoror'S'whichisreflectedinaspecificorparticularabilitye.g.musicalability,artisticabilityetc. Theperformanceonanycognitivetaskispredictedbytheformula- P=g+S Performance=Generalfactor+Specificfactor However,thisformulasuggeststhatboth'g'and'S'factorsparticipateequallyinaffectingtheperformance(P).Actuallytheyvaryindifferentactivities.Vocabularlyisverycloselyrelatedto'g.Sotheperformanceonvocabularlyshouldbewrittenas Pe=g+S Whereas,performanceonthetestofaestheticjudgementmaydependontrainingofartandsomespecificability.Herewewouldwritetheformula Pa=g+S Theexactnatureof'g'isunknown.Figureshowingtherelationshipbetween'g'and'S'abilities.
