BACKGROUND EnginePowerLimitation(EPL)wasdevelopedtoenablevesselstoquicklyandsimplycomplywiththe2023EEXIrequirementsbylimitingenginepowerandassociatedemissions. UPGRADECOMPATIBILITY ThefunctionalityisavailableforAutoChiefC20DGSandAutoChief600DGSdeliveredforMANB&WMCandWärtsilä/SulzerRTAengines.ItisalsoavailableforallenginesdeliveredwithCanMansystemswithloadcontrol. SOFTWARE InstallingEPLrequiresasoftwareupgradeoftheexistingsystem.TheEPLfunctionisaddedinadditiontoexistingfuellimiters. HARDWARE Minorhardwareadd-onisrequired.Thehardwaredeliveryincludesapanelwithoverrideswitchandfeedbackindications.AnadditionalI/OprocessunitisinstalledtomeettherequirementsforEPLoverridecapabilityandloggingfunctionality. EPLWORKINGPRINCIPLE Thefunctionalitycalculatestheenginepoweroutputinreal-time.Thesystemthencomparestheenginepoweroutputtotheenginepowerlimit,andlimitsfuelindexbasedonactualpower.Bylimitingonactualpowerinput,theEPLfunctionwillnotaffecttheengine’soperation(unlesstheEPLpowerlimitisreached),unlikeamechanicallimiterwhichlimitsdirectlyonfuelindex.Incaseashaftgeneratorisinstalledandshouldnotbeapartofthepowercalculation,theEPLcanbesettolimitenginepowerbasedoninputfromtheshaftpowersystem(ShaPoLi). EPLOVERRIDE Theoverridefunctionenablestheoperatortoexceptionallyrunthevesselabovethepre-definedenginepowerlimitinordertohandlesituationswheretheuseofadditionalpower(reservepower)isneededtoensuresafetyofthecrewandadequateoperatingconditions.Inadditiontotheoverridefunction,theAutoChiefI/OprocessunitorCanMansystemwillprovidedefaultalarmoutputsforloggingoftheevent.ForCanManinstallations,thealarmoutputsarecommunicatedviatheVDRinterfacetoanexternalloggingsystem.
