Racingthoughtsdifferinmanifestationaccordingtotheindividual'sperspective.Thesemanifestationscanvaryfromunnoticedorminordistractionstodebilitatingstress,preventingthesuffererfrommaintainingathought.[4] Generally,racingthoughtsaredescribedbyanindividualwhohashadanepisodewheretheminduncontrollablybringsuprandomthoughtsandmemoriesandswitchesbetweenthemveryquickly.Sometimestheyarerelated,asonethoughtleadstoanother;othertimestheyseemcompletelyrandom.Apersonsufferingfromanepisodeofracingthoughtshasnocontrolovertheirtrainofthought,anditstopsthemfromfocusingononetopicorpreventssleeping. Associatedconditions[edit] Thecausesofracingthoughtsaremostoftenassociatedwithanxietydisorders,butmanyinfluencescancausetheserapid,racingthoughts.Therearealsomanyassociatedconditions,inadditiontoanxietydisorders,whichcanbeclassifiedashavingsecondaryrelationshipswithcausingracingthoughts.Theconditionsmostcommonlylinkedtoracingthoughtsarebipolardisorder,anxietydisorder,attentiondeficithyperactivitydisorder,sleepdeprivation,amphetaminedependence,andhyperthyroidism. Anxietydisorders[edit] Racingthoughtsassociatedwithanxietydisorderscanbecausedbymanydifferentconditions,suchasobsessive–compulsivedisorder(OCD),panicdisorder,generalizedanxietydisorder,orposttraumaticstressdisorder.
