ThefirstversionoftheSOImodelwaspresentedin1956.TheSOIexplainsintelligenceasasystematiccollectionofabilitiesorfunctionsforprocessingdifferentkindsofitemsofinformationinseveralways.OriginallytheSOImodelincludedFourtypesofMentalContentsDimension(Figural,Symbolic,Semantic,andBehavioural),FivetypesofOperationsDimension(Cognition,Memory,Evaluation,ConvergentProduction,andDivergentProduction),andSixtypesofProductsDimension(Unit,Class,RelationsSystem,Transformation,andImplication).Therefore,resultin120factors,withover100havingbeenempiricallyconfirmed.Thismodelissignifiedasacubewitheachofthethreedimensionsoccupyingoneside.Manyoftheabilitiesarebelievedtobeconnected.Themodelalsoproposeswherenewabilitiesmaybediscoveredbasedonexistingabilities. Cognition–Abilitytounderstand,comprehend,discover,andbecomeaware.Memory–Abilitytomemorizeinformation.Evaluation–Processofjudgingwhetherananswerisaccurate,consistent,orvalid.DivergentProduction–Processofproducingmultiplesolutionstoaproblem.                             ConvergentProduction–Processofconcludingasinglesolutiontoaproblem. Unit–Representsasingleitemofinformation.Class–Asetofitemsthatsharesomeattributes.Relation–Representsaconnectionbetweenitemsorvariables;mightbelinkedasoppositesorinassociations,sequences,oranalogies.System–Anorganizationofitemsornetworkswithinteractingparts.Transformation–Change’sperspectives,conversions,ormutationstoknowledge;forexample,reversingtheorderoflettersinaword.Implication–Predictions,inferences,consequences,oranticipationsofknowledge.
