In1972,EMhadjoinedwithElsevierandlater,in1974,formedEMBASE(ExcerptaMedicadatabase)whichhadreleasedelectronicaccesstoabstractjournals.FollowingfeedbackfromtheEMBASEusercommunity,EMBASEClassicwascreatedasaseparatedatabasetosupplementEMBASEasabackfileofmedicaljournalsfrom1947-1973whichprovidesvaluabledocumentationofdrugs,adverseeffects,endogenouscompounds,etc.foundatthetime.[3] In2010,ExcerptaMedica,excludingEMBASE,wassoldbyElseviertotheOmnicomGroup.[4] Currentstatus[edit] Inadditiontothe28millionreports,Embase'sdatabasesteadilyriseseachyearatarateofover900,000records.[5]Thiswideexpanseofinformationisusedinbothprofessionalandeducationalenvironmentsforretrievinganypublishedbiomedicalordrugrelatedinformation.Currently,EmbaseallowsfurthercustomizationforapersonalexperiencesuchasimplementingaRSSfeedandemailalertsystem.Withnewdruganddisease-relatedinformationconstantlyreleased,Embaseisupdateddailytoprovideacomprehensiveandreliablesourceofinformation.
