ExamplesofDimensionsinDynamics365BusinessCentral Region:Melbourne,Sydney,Perth Project:NewBuildingProject,UpgradeProject,ResearchProject Department:Finance,Sales1,Sales2,HumanResources Theaboveareexamplesofhowcompaniesmaywanttoreportonsalesandexpensesthroughoutthesystem.Thebenefitofusingdimensionsoccurswhentheuserpostsapurchase,saleorgeneralledgerentryandthedimensionsareautomaticallypostedwiththetransaction.Youcanspecifyacombinationofdimensionvaluesorsetrulesonwhenadimensionmustbeselected.ThisallowstheChartofAccountstobesimplifiedasseparategeneralledgeraccountsarenotrequiredtobesetupormaintainedfordifferentdepartmentsorprojects.  Someexamplesofreportsthatwouldbepossiblewiththeabovedimensionscouldbe: Profitabilityofthe“Sales1”departmentwithinthe“Melbourne”region,comparedtothe“Sales2”departmentin“Perth”. DependentDimensions DependentDimensionsallowfordimensionstobelinkedtocreateadimensioncombination.Forexample,aProjectdimensioncanbelinkedtoaRegionDimension.EachtimetheProjectdimension“UpgradeProject”isselectedonadocumentorjournal,theDimension“Melbourne”willbeautomaticallyinsertedintheRegionDimensionfield,basedonthesetupontheDependentDimensionspage.Thissimplifiesthedataentryprocessandensuresonlycorrectdimensioncombinationscanbeused. MandatoryDimensions Wheremultipledimensioncombinationscouldexist,theebs-plusMandatoryDimensionfunctionallowsyoutosetrulesthatspecifywhenonedimensionisselected,thenadimensionfromanothercategorymustalsobeselected.ForexamplewhenselectingtheProjectDimension“UpgradeProject”onadocumentorjournal,aRegionDimensionmustalsobeselectedbeforeausercanpost.  Alldimensionsareavailabletobeusedtocreateyourownreportswhichyoucandiveintofurtherinourposton AccountSchedules.
