日常生活中经常用到的极限形容词包括:delicious,hilarious,exhausted,freezing,huge,excellent等。

这些极限形容词表示的都是非常……,比如: delicous的意思是非常好吃(extremelytasty) hilarious意思是非常好笑(extremelyfunny) exhausted表示的是非常累(extremelyexhausted) freezing表示的是非常冷(extremelycold) huge表示的是非常大(extremelylarge) filthy表示的是非常脏(extremelydirty) 报道中说了三个使用极限形容词有几个规则: 第一:极限形容词通常没有比较级和最高级。

当然,随着英语的演进,口语中有时候也有人会说:ThisisthemostdeliciousdishIhaveeverhad.(这是我吃过最好吃的菜)。

但是,如moreexcellent这一类的表达则通常很少见。

第二:极限形容词前通常不用程度副词修饰,也就是说极限形容词前很少用very,abit,kindof这一类的词来修饰。

极限形容词前可以用表示“完全”的几个副词来修饰,包括compeletely,totally,absolutely,utterly。

Withextremeadjectives,weavoidusingmostadverbsthatsuggestvaryingdegree,orlevel. Manyadverbsexpressthedegreeofagradableadjective.Youheardsomeearlier,suchas"kindof"inkindoffunnyand"very"inverygood.Othercommononesincludeabit,alittle,andrather. Forinstance,youcouldsay,"Herhouseisabitcold"or"Thatstoryisratherdull." Thewords"cold"and"dull"aregradableadjectives.Butwithextremeadjectives,weoftenavoidusingtheseadverbs.Forexample,itmightsoundstrangetosay,"Herhouseisabitfreezing"or"Thatmanisrathergorgeous." Yet,wecanuseotheradverbswithextremeadjectivesforstrongeremphasis. Generally,adverbsthatexpressthemeaningoftotalityareusedwithextremeadjectives.Someexamplesaretotally,utterly,absolutelyandcompletely.Listentohowtheyareusedinsentences: Thatcomedianisabsolutelyhilarious. Iamtotallyexhausted. Theruglookscompletelyfilthy. Now,ontorulenumberthree.Thisismoreofanexceptiontorulenumbertwo.Onlyafewadverbscanbeusedwithbothgradableadjectivesandnon-gradable(extreme)adjectives.Theyincludepretty,really,soandfairly.
