Wetookoverthemaintenanceofthe(2ndgeneration)GSMspecificationsalreadybroughttomaturitybyETSITCSMG,andwhichhadformedthebasisfor3Gdevelopment.Welaterinstigated4thgenerationmobilewithLTEandmorerecentlythe5thgeneration,5G.Technologiesdevelopedandmaintainedby3GPPincludeEDGE,HSPA,CarrierAggregation,NR,EPCandNG-CN,descriptionsofwhichcanbefoundintheTechnologiespages. 3GPPnowencompassessevenSDOs:ETSI(Europeandrestofworld),ATIS(USA),ARIBandTTC(Japan),TTA(SouthKorea),CCSA(China)andTSDSI(India).Technicalinputcomesfromaround2000delegatesrepresentingmemberorganizationsoftheseSDOs.ETSIprovidesthe20-personsecretariatwhichcoordinatessome140meetingsperyearhandling100,000contributiondocuments.TherunningcostsaredividedamongsttheSDOs,andanumberofregional“Friendsof3GPP”groupsfundthemeetingsintheirrespectiveregions.
