Oslo,21April,2021:FoundationDetNorskeVeritas–whichownsDNVGroup–hasteamedupwiththeMaritimeandPortAuthorityofSingapore(MPA)andfiveotherindustryleaderstoestablishamaritimedecarbonizationcentreinSingapore. Thecentre’sstatedmissionistocatalyseandfacilitatedecarbonizationinthemaritimesectorandwillbesupportedbycontributionsfromthefoundingmemberstotallingS$120million.ItscreationfollowsthereleaseofarecommendationbytheInternationalAdvisoryPanel(IAP)–aSingaporeMaritimeFoundationinitiative–onmaritimedecarbonizationtosetupadecarbonizationcentreinSingapore. TheMemorandumofCooperationwassignedon21AprilinthepresenceofMrCheeHongTat,Singapore’sSeniorMinisterofStateforTransportandForeignAffairs. FoundationDetNorskeVeritashascommittedS$10million–afigurematchedbypartnersBWGroup,EasternPacificShipping,OceanNetworkExpress,SembcorpMarineLtd,andBHPwiththeMPAaddingS$60milliontothecontributions. “TheFoundationDetNorskeVeritasisdrivenbyadesiretohelpsocietytacklemajorglobaltransformations,”saidRemiEriksen,ChiefExecutiveOfficeroftheFoundationDetNorskeVeritasandDNV.“Transformingtheworldenergysystemisoneofthebiggestchallengescurrentlyconfrontingsociety,andshippingmustplayitspart.Butdoingthiscannotbeachievedwithoutindustrywidecollaboration.ThatiswhywehavetakenthedecisiontobecomeafoundingmemberoftheSingaporedecarbonizationcentre.” Eriksenadded:“WebelievethedeepexpertisebehindtheFoundationcomplementsSingapore’sstatusasaworld-leadingmaritimeecosystemforsustainableenergyandclimatechange.Workingtogether,IamconfidenttheCentrewilldeliveraglobalimpactondecarbonizationwhilefurtherbolsteringtheFoundation’spurposeofsafeguardinglife,propertyandtheenvironment.” MsQuahLeyHoon,ChiefExecutiveofMPA,said,“Maritimedecarbonizationisaglobalchallengerequiringacollectiveresponsibilityfromallstakeholdersinvolved.Itiscrucialtohavestrongpublic-privatesectorpartnerships.Wethanklike-mindedpartnersliketheFoundationDetNorskeVeritasthathaverespondedstronglytoourcallforcollaboration.Theagreementsignedtodayisafirststep,whichwehopewillcatalysealarger,muchneededmomentumtomakeinternationalshippingmoresustainable.” “Collaborationiskeytoprogressonthedecarbonizationpathway.AtDNV,wearepleasedtowidenthescopeofourlongstandingcooperationwithMPAbysharingourtechnicalcompetenceandindustryknowledgeinthismaritimedecarbonizationcentre.Togetherwithleadingshippingfirmsintheregion,welookforwardtosupporttheadoptionofnewlow-andzero-carbonsolutionswhichwillhelptoreachtheIMOgreenhousegasreductiontargets,”saidCristinaSaenzdeSantaMaria,RegionalManagerSouthEastAsia,Pacific&India,MaritimeatDNV,whosignedtheMemorandumofCooperationonbehalfoftheFoundationDetNorskeVeritas.
