Abstract:  Introduction:TherehasbeenabreakthroughintreatingMDDsinceintroductionofFDAapprovedrepetitivetranscranialmagneticstimulation(rTMS)interventionin2008.However,themanysessionsoftreatmentanditscostmakesitinconvenientforthosewhoseektreatmentespeciallyinlargecitiesandalsoindevelopingcountries. Method:Atotalof22patients(outofinitial24referrals)whometDSMIVcriteriaforMDDwereenrolledintothestudy.Thesubjects allhadtofailatleastonepriortreatmentfordepression.ThepatientsreceivedtheFDAapprovedprotocolofhigh-frequency(10Hz)rTMSovertheleftdorsolateralprefrontalcortex. Results:Seventeencasesoutoftwenty-twocasesshowedsignificantimprovementsaftertwoweeksoftreatment.Onlysixpatientscontinuedtheirtreatmentsforthenexttwotofourweeks.  Conclusions:WehavereplicatedotherstudiesshowingthatusingrTMSis effectivewithnomajorsideeffectsformanypatientswithMDDandtheirimprovementsaremeasurablemostlyaftertwoweeks.OurdatahighlightstheimportanceofapplicationofmoreconvenientprotocolswhichrequirefewersessionsonfewerdaystohelpwithcomplianceandoutcomeparticularlyinlargepopulatedcitiesandcountrieslikeIrangoingthrougheconomichardship.
