AskingforFeedback–Peoplewithagrowthmindsetseekoutandvaluefeedbackmorethanthosewithafixedmindset.Onepossiblereasonforthisisthatthosewithagrowthmindsetseeneweventsasanopportunitytolearnnewthings,developandchallengethemselves;whereas,thosewithafixedmindsetseethemasatest(andthereforejudgement)againsttheirability.Aswellasgivingsomeonefeedback,theactualbehaviourthatshouldbepraisedistheirseekingoutthisfeedback.Thiswillleadtothemaskingfor feedbackagaininthefuture,whichisapositiveresponsetoeithersuccessorfailure. Persistence–Theabilitytopersistandovercomesetbacksisseenbymanyasakeylifeskill.ManyOlympicchampionshavedevelopedthisskill,andtheyattributeitasakeypartoftheirsuccess.Researchindicatesthatthosewithagrowthmindsetwillpersistforlonger.ResearchinAmericaon'Grit'(thedefinitionforgritislongtermperseveranceandpassiontowardsasingulargoal)isinitsearlystages,buthasbeenlinkedtosuccessinschool,university,militarytrainingandgenerallyinlife.Wethinkthiswillbeaninterestingareaofresearchtokeepaneyeonoverthecomingyears. ChoosingDifficultTasks–Peoplewithafixedmindsetequatemakingmistakeswithhavinglowlevelsofability.Thiscanleadtopeopleplayingittoosafeforfearoflookingbad.Overtime,thisleadstoworseperformance.Mistakeshappenandtheyareinevitable.Learningismessyandneverstraight-forward.Byencouragingsomeonetochoosedifficulttasksandstretchthemselves,wethinkitwillhelpthemdeveloptheirmindset.Thisgrowthmindsetcouldhelpdevelopasenseofbothcourageandcuriosity:importantlifeskillsthatextendbeyondjustgettinggoodgradesorplayingsportbetter.
