OneofthesemeasuresincludestheEnergyEfficiencyIndexforExistingVessels(EEXI),whichwillbeappliedretroactivelytovesselsabove400GTfallingunderMARPOLAnnexVIthroughaone-timecertification. TheseamendmentswillenterintoforceonNovember1st,2022. Whatisrequiredofowners? BeginningJanuary1st,2023anEEXItechnicalfilewillneedtobeinplaceforvesselsthataresatisfyingtheRequiredEEXI.TheEEXItechnicalfileincludestheEEXIcalculationwithsupportingdocumentation(seeFAQs)andmustbesummittedtoaclasssocietypriortotheInternationalEnergyEfficiency(IEE)surveytakingplace.  IssuanceoftheIEEcertificatetakesplaceupontheverificationoftheEEXIduringthenextscheduledannual,intermediateorrenewalsurveyintheyear2023.  HOWCANABSASSIST?  AtABSweunderstandthateachvesselisunique,thereforewetailorourapproachspecificallytoyourvessel’scharacteristics,allwhilekeepingyouroverallsustainabilitygoalsinmind.  WebeginbyworkingwithyoutounderstandyouroverallsustainabilitygoalsandhowEEXIwillplayaroleinachievingthosegoals. Fromthereweguideyouthroughoutoursimplethree-stepapproach,allowingforseamlesscompliance.   ThreeStepApproach:  1.   AssessCurrentEEXI ABScandetermineavessel’scurrentEEXIbasedontheIMO’sguidelines. Understandingwhereyourvessel’sattainedEEXIiscomparedtothereferencelineandtherequiredEEXI,canhelpyoudeterminetheroadmapandtimelineforimprovements.Onceyouknowwhereyourvesselstands,youarebetterpreparedtomakedecisions. 2.   EvaluateImprovementOptions IfyourEEXIrequiresimprovement,weworkwithyoutodiscussontheoptionsavailablebasedonoperationaldataandcommercialneeds. DuringthisstepweconsiderEnergyEfficiencyTechnologies(EET)and/orEnginePowerLimitation(EPL),enablingyoutochoosethesolutionbestsuitedforyourvessel.Dependingonthesolutionimplemented,theremaybeadditionalstepsthatrequiredthatwecanwalkyouthrough.(seeFAQs)Priortostep3,werecommendre-calculatingyourEEXIifanimprovementoptionhasbeenimplementedinordertoconfirmtheexpectedEEXIhasbeenachieved. 3.   VerifyEEXI Onceimprovementshavebeenimplemented,wewillassistincompilingtheEEXItechnicalfileforsubmission. UponreceiptandapprovaloftheEEXItechnicalfile,wewillalignyourIEEsurveywithyournextscheduledannual,intermediateorrenewalsurvey. Followingasuccessfulonboardsurvey,anIEEcertificatewillbeissued.  Throughouteachoftheabovesteps,weoffercontinuedsupportandguidancethroughourteamofsustainabilityspecialistspositionedgloballyateachoftheABSsustainabilitycenters.  Connectwithustodaybyselectingthecontactusbuttonorbyemailingusatsustainability@eagle.org.
