Aftertheirhot-airballoonisshotdown,Machi,Shalnark,andShizukuareseenplayingagameofcardsasUvoginmassacresalltheMafiamembers[14]andfourShadowBeastsbyhimself.[15]WhenUvoginiscapturedbyKurapika,MachiimmediatelyusesaneedleandaNenthreadtotrackUvogin.SheandfourothermembersthenchaseafterKurapikabycar,butjustbeforetheycancatchupwithhim,theremainingShadowBeastsarriveandstopthem.[16]MachiandhercomradeseasilykilltheremainingShadowBeastsexceptOwl,whotheycaptureandtorturetoretrievetheauctionitems.Nearmidnight,theyfindwhereUvoginisbeingheldcaptiveandfreehimafterPhinkskillsDalzollene.[3] Later,ChrolloisabletodeducethatthechainuserisconnectedtoNeonandisthelastmemberoftheKurtaClanwhowantstoobtaintheScarletEyes.AfterKortopitracksthecopiesthatweresoldattheauction,ChrollousesamaptoworkoutthatthechainuserisattheHotelBeitacle.HethenordersKortopi,Machi,Nobunaga,Pakunoda,andShizukutogowithhimtothehotel.[28]Onthewaythere,Chrollonoticesthattheyarebeingfollowedbytwopeople,tellingKortopi,Nobunaga,andPakunodatogoaheadwhilehe,Machi,andShizukustaybehind,eventuallycapturingGonandKilluaagain.[29]
