●BriefhistorySoochowUniversity,foundedin1900inSuzhou,wasthefirstwestern-styleuniversityinChina.AfterthegovernmentoftheRepublicofChinamovedtoTaiwan,someofitsformeralumniexertedtirelesseffortstoreestablishtheiralmamaterinTaipei.In1951,aboardofdirectorswascreatedandpremiseswererentedonHankouStreetindowntownTaipeitosetuptheso-calledSoochowPreparatorySchool.AftertheMinistryofEducationapprovedthereestablishmentplanattheendof1954,theSchoolofLawwasthefirsttobeestablished,whichincludedtheDepartmentsofLaw,PoliticalScience,Economics,andAccounting,alongwithanattachedForeignLanguagesandLiteratureDepartment.TheschoolbecamethefirstprivateuniversityinTaiwan.After60yearsofhardworkinTaiwan,theuniversityhasgrownandbecomefullyaccreditedturningintooneofthemostprestigiousprivateuniversitiesontheisland,completewithsixcolleges(SchoolofBigDataManagementbeganenrollingstudentsin2015),23departments,22Masteralprograms,and6DoctoralPrograms.Thestudentpopulationhasalsoexceeded15,000.Weadheretothebestoftheschool'straditionswhilestickingtothemotto"UntoaFullGrownMan"incarryingoutoureducationprogramssteadfastly.Asaresultofunbendingboardprinciples,efficientschooloperations,andcomprehensivefoundationprograms,theschoolhasreceivedtheMinistryofEducation's"TeachingExcellenceProgram"awardforelevenconsecutiveyearssince2005.Oureducationaldevelopmentprogramsarebasedonthepursuitofhighest"teaching"qualityand"learning"excellenceforthestudents.Buildingonalmostacenturyofacademicexcellenceandwithfullunderstandingofourintrinsicvalues,apracticalintegrationofresources,andafocusonstrengtheningcharacterdevelopment,wehopetocreateaneweraforSoochowUniversity 【TeachingExcellenceProjects】Byattendingtothe"teachingandlearning"needsofthefacultyandstudents,integratingexpertisefromeachoftheschools,anddeepeningeachschool'sresearchadvantage,andundertheplannedpushfortalentoptimization,systemrenovation,organizationinnovation,careertraining,andcurriculumreform,wefullysupporttheacademicneedsanddemandsofourstudentsandfaculty,andassiststudentsin"maximizingtalentanddevelopingstrength”inthejobmarket, 【Outcomeofevaluation】Duringthesecondhalfof2008,theuniversityunderwentitsfirstperiodof"universityprogramevaluation."DuetotherecognitionandaffirmationofacademicexcellenceinMay2004,theChemistryProgramswereexemptfromevaluationpriortoSchoolYear2014;theremaining48departmentalprogramsunderwentevaluationconductedbytheCenterforHigherEducationEvaluation.WithrespecttotheadministrativeevaluationduringthefirsthalfofSchoolYear2011conductedbytheHigherEducationEvaluationandAccreditationCouncilofTaiwan,theuniversitypassedallfiveevaluationitemswithflyingcolors. 【Specialhonors】Byupholdingthefive-way-of-lifeinpursuingitsholisticeducationphilosophyandencouragingteachersandstudentstopracticelife-longlearning,theuniversitynotonlytoppedtheCollegeandUniversityRecyclingCompetitionsponsoredbytheCityofTaipeifortheSchoolYear2014,butwasalsoselectedbytheMinistryofEducationasoneoftheschoolswithanoutstandingmoraleducationprogram,bringingaboutimpressiveachievements. 【Magazinesurveyresults】Inthesurveyofmostfavoreduniversitiescollectivelyevaluatedbyenterprisesandpublishedinthe2014UniversityGuide,GlobalViewsMonthly,and1111JobBank,SoochowUniversitywonthe"topComprehensivePrivateUniversityaward,"whichfurtherconfirmeditsreputationasthebestprivateuniversityinTaiwan.Thealumnihavedemonstratedoutstandingjobperformance.Beitindependentorteamwork,orbeitintermsofworldview,ourgraduatesareabletomeetexpectationsandneedsdemandedbybusinesses. 【Industry-academicresearchcollaboration】Atthe2014TaipeiInternationalInventionShowandTechnomart,SoochowUniversitywononesilverandtwobronzermedalsforitsoutstandingachievementsresultingfromtheintegrationofknowledgeandapplicationaswellasofindustryandacademics.IntheSchoolYearsof2013and2014,facultymemberswontheDepartmentofScienceandTechnology'shighestTa-YouWuMemorialAward,whichfurtherdemonstratesthevigorandvitalitydisplayedintheresearchactivitiesofmanyyoungprofessorsattheuniversity.TheAnalysisReportonacademicperformanceofElsevierResearchIntelligenceshowsthatthefield-weightedcitationimpactofthepublicationsoffacultymembersfromSoochowUniversityfor2009-2013was1.16,whichwashigherthantheworldaverageof1.0.Paperspublishedbythisuniversityareofthehighestqualityandaremostcompetitiveintermsof"productivityandefficiency,"withanannualgrowthraterankedthirdintheworld.Withtheadventofbigdatainthisinformationage,theinformationprocessingtechnologydevelopedattheSchoolofBigDataManagementatSoochowwillleadtothefollowings:developmentofotherrelatedcourses,promotionofinternationalcompetitivenessandglobaloutlook,introductionofindustry-academicprojectsandapplications,anincreaseinschoolparticipationprojectsandstudentinternshipsprovidinglearningexperienceswiththeworkplaceenvironment,andtheintegrationofbigdatainformationapplicationandresearch.
