作者是生在香港的富家子弟，因父輩愛國--如魔鬼幽靈附體的那種，八歲被送回內地祖國。

"回歸祖國"時，作者正趕上文化大革命爆發，長期政治荒誕背後的暴戾和困頓反而讓作者的精神在磨難中覺醒，驅除了魔鬼幽靈，清爽自強起來。

文革結束，中國稍稍回歸了一點常識，但是荒誕的慣性依然推動著尋找道路的腳步，明明有橋立在眼前，偏偏要摸著石頭過河，然而，此時的作者卻懷揣著道路自信一路奔向自由，先回香港，"六四"槍響後，又一路趕來美國，用腳投票，以放逐的姿態鄙視一齣一齣的荒誕劇。
