AftertheChineseCivilWar,membersoftheSoochowAlumniAssociationwhofledtoTaiwanestablishedanewinstitutiontherein1951.Alawschoolwasopenedin1954,andafulluniversitywascertifiedin1971.[8] MeanwhileinSuzhou,theoriginaluniversitymergedwiththeSouthernJiangsuCollegeofCultureandEducationandtheDepartmentofMathematicsandPhysicsatJiangnanUniversitytoformtheJiangsuTeacher'sCollegein1952,whichrevivedthenameSoochowUniversityin1982.However,whiletheEnglishnamesareidentical,theoneinSuzhouusestheChinesename蘇州(Soochow),nottheoriginal 東吳(Tung-wu). ThecampusishometothetomboftheprominentChinesepoliticiananddiplomatWangCh'unghui,whofledtoTaiwanaftertheestablishmentofthePeople'sRepublicofChinain1949. In2014,theJapan–TaiwanExchangeAssociationlistedSoochowUniversityasoneofthesevenwell-knownTaiwaneseuniversities.[9] Publications[edit] In1981,thefirstjoint-issuedclass-mademagazine,completelyfoundedbystudents,calledXuAi,appearedinSoochowUniversity.[citationneeded]Studentsvoicedpoliticalopinionsastotemporalsociety,butthemagazinewasquicklybannedbythestrongcommendofthecollege.
