OnourpageaboutbusinessletterwritingphraseswelistedtherulesforwhentouseYourssincerelyandYoursfaithfully.Quiteafewusersofthesitehaveaskedifthereareanysimilarrulesforwritingemails.
Inanswertothequestion,Ithinktherearetwothingstoconsider.
Firstly,emailshaveashorthistorycomparedwiththatofletters,andconsequentlytherearenofixedrules.However,thatdoesn’tmeanthatthereisnoetiquetteforemails–theredefinitelyis.
Secondly,ifwearetryingtoestablishsomekindofgeneralrule,weshouldrememberthattherearebasicallytwotypesofemail:
theformalemail(business,work-related)
theinformalemail(usuallytofriendsoracquaintances).
Obviouslyaformalemailwillrequiredifferentphrasesandlanguagestyletoaninformalemailwrittento,say,afriend.

Usingacapitalletter(DearAll,HelloEveryone,etc.)probablydoesindicatealittlemorerespectandmaybeusefulformoreformalemailsand/orwhenaddressingsuperiors.Intheend,Ithinkit’samatterofpersonalchoice–I’dsticktolowercaseininformalemails.
